The REVISIONARY: Writer of Fate

If one could claim falsehoods about history, and just like that, make it suddenly a truth of reality, what would happen? And... what if you took control of the one who possessed such a power?

The REVISIONARY is an exploration-focused platformer where you will find and read scrolls to change your character's fundamental truths. Grant the one you control the ability to jump well, to climb faster. It was always true of The REVISIONARY that such could be done, after all. And that wall over there? Maybe it never existed at all! You will be the writer of fate... take history into your own hands, and make it your own.

Before we continue, a quick notice: To play with gamepad entirely without keyboard, you will need to use a virtual keyboard in addition to your gamepad if you want to type things in the few instances where it's required.

Now... rather than finish the description of this title myself, I've tasked somebody from the world of the game itself, The NARRATOR, with the honor of completing the writing of the rest of the page. Take it away!

So we first meet here...

Evidently, I, The NARRATOR, have been assigned the task of writing the description of this game. Very well... I suppose it's an acceptable outcome.

If you plan to play The Revisionary regardless of my words, I wish to respect your time better, and thus recommend skipping to my two warnings near the bottom of this page, and the further info after that point, to avoid redundancy with speech in the game proper. If you are still unsure if your interest is held, however, read on.

Apologies in advance for any possible redundancies with descriptions above me. I was not permitted to read them before writing this... or after, for that matter.

You will take control of a character who bears the power of history.

I call this The REVISIONARY. When reading texts aloud, so long as the text written is by another's hand, it becomes a truth of The REVISIONARY's history.

This is the singular power which The REVISIONARY possesses. Otherwise, the person you control is the natural bearer of no other special abilities.

In this game I will helpfully narrate on occasion, you find scrolls describing new powers to give The REVISIONARY, and use them to access new areas. An exploration platformer, or a "Metroidvania" as you call it, is a sufficient descriptor of the resulting gameplay loop.

Do not expect any characters in the game world to be able to assist on the quest during its duration. And remember: Play the game or not, the game's outcome will come to pass, and the darklord will be slain.

Oh, right... there is a darklord.

A cloaked figure residing at the top of a tall tower who does not have The REVISIONARY's best interests at heart. It is in your best interest that the darklord be slain, but do note again that this does not require your involvement. The REVISIONARY's quest will resolve the same way, regardless of if you play the game or not. The darklord must be slain, and so the darklord will be slain.

I will now caution two things:

1. This game may contain dark themes that you may find unsettling.
2. This is a story-heavy game where you will be expected to read. If, for some reason, you wish to play but do not wish to read, you can skip most text fairly quickly by rapidly pressing Z (keyboard) or A (gamepad). However, do know that you are not getting a complete experience by doing so.

Additionally, I will now make mention of supported input devices.

You can use a keyboard to control The REVISIONARY in this game title. Certain Xbox gamepads should be compatible as well, as well as any devices compatible with those themselves. An input remapper of some sort, such as DS4Windows or SteamInput, may be desirable if you wish to use a gamepad to play this game.

When you first begin the game, you will be asked to press X on your preferred input device. This includes keyboard. This will determine which button prompts you will see in the game proper, and factors in that the button with a label shaped like an X is located differently on most modern gamepads compared to each other. So please make sure to actually press the button with that label if you want accurate button labels during the game. Thank you.

Additionally, typing things into the game's input fields requires a keyboard. A virtual keyboard, such as the one included with Steam Input, suffices, if you wish to play purely on your gamepad and need a proper methodology with which to do so.
